The National Instruments cDAQ-SL1100 (Part Number: 868018-01) is an all-in-one strain and load measurement bundle designed for high-precision data acquisition from bridge-type sensors. This complete package consists of the cDAQ-9171, a rugged, one-slot, USB-driven chassis, and the special NI-9237, a four-channel simultaneous bridge input module. The package includes those accessories necessary for operation, including RJ50 cables for sensor connection, a USB cable for connection to the computer, a quarter bridge accessory (NI-9945), and a desktop mounting kit.
The core of the cDAQ-SL1100 package is the chassis (cDAQ-9171) that provides both the communication backbone and the power needed through a single USB 2.0 Hi-Speed connection with the host computer. This small and rugged chassis is designed for portable or benchtop use in demanding industrial environments, working over a wide temperature range. It is configured for a C Series module (in this case NI-9237) and incorporates sophisticated timing features, giving clock accuracy of 50 ppm and resolution of 12.5 ns, both of which are necessary and useful for synchronized measurements. The chassis also has the benefit of safety and EMC certification for reliable operation in industrial environments.
The NI-9237 module is the analytical core of the cDAQ-SL1100 package, providing the specialized type of signal conditioning required for strain gauges and load cells. This module provides four separate analog input channels capable of simultaneous sampling at 50 kS/s. per channel with 24-bit resolution, with no phase differences between the channels, allowing precise dynamic measurements, as well as being able to utilize quarter, half and full bridge arrangements inclusively. The module allows the application of programmable internal excitation voltages of up to 10 V. Key features include 60 VDC channel-to-earth ground isolation and 1,000 Vrms transient protection, increasing the safety of the operator and giving superb common-mode rejection in electrically noisy environments. Advanced features available for use include remote sensing and software-controlled shunt calibration for automatic corrections for errors generated due to lead wire resistances.
The cDAQ-SL1100 package is ideally suited for structural health monitoring, materials testing and mechanical validation applications in research laboratories, manufacturing quality control and process automation applications. The package thus then serves as a high-fidelity, dedicated, and high-performance system for the accurate conversion of applied physical phenomena, such as force, pressure and weight, into precise, reliable and high-fidelity digital data.
